Institutional Research and Planning

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning’s (IRP) mission is to contextualize institutional decision-making. To this end, the efforts of IRP are organized around four primary clusters of activities:

  • IRP serves as the chief information clearinghouse for the university;
  • IRP conducts social science research about students, faculty, staff, and others activities to support regular, on-going institutional self-examination;
  • IRP conducts policy analysis to inform decision-making; and
  • IRP facilitates and manages institutional planning and deliberative processes.

Much of the work of the Office is available electronically, including the Factbook (which includes information about Cornell admissions, enrollment, degrees conferred, and human resources, etc.) the Common Data Set and results of surveys of students, parents, alumni, and faculty.
