Financial Brio-Hyperion Standard Reports for Budgeting

The Accounting Budget Data Mart has seven report documents that contain fifteen standard reports. They are listed below. Additionally, there is a "metadata" report that you can process that will give you short descriptions on all the fields in all the data models. The result sets for the reports may be easily exported to Excel. Object code mappings for use in preparing your Budget are available here.

Quick Reference for Brio-Hyperion usage (pdf)

Note that the data marts are updated daily, early in the evening Monday through Friday night. Adjustments made in CPBS after about 6:00 pm are not likely to appear in the data mart update for that day and changes made over the weekend will not be available until Tuesday.

Budget - Trustee - Final Reports

These reports provide budgeted information in the Trustee Budget format using the Financial Reporting Codes (FRC) for budget contained in the annual budget planning assumptions book. You may limit the reports by organization, department, fund, function, and source. The report document also contains pivot tables for these reports.

Trustee (T) or Final (F) Budget Report (B520)

The report provides information that was submitted and approved by the Board of Trustees in May, or the final budget that is loaded into the general ledger at the end of the budget cycle. Reports can be selected by (limited to) organization, department and fund groups which show total resources and resources used ending with a net from operations.

Current Budget Report (B510)

This report provides budgeted information from CPBS on a daily basis during the budget preparation period. You must select by a "timekey" - the date of extract from CPBS that you wish to see. This Report is the format used by the University Budget Office for reporting to the Board of Trustees. Select the most recent "timekey" to run your report (the last date that data were extracted from CPBS). There is also a brief narrative report required (Budget Narrative) along with this report.

Budget Actual Compare Reports

These reports compare budgeted to actual amounts for the current and previous years. All reports are organized by FRC (financial reporting codes) for budget. The budget FRC are contained in the annual budget planning assumptions book. You may limit the reports by organization, department, fund, function, and source. Three reports are sorted by organization and department and three reports are sorted by organization and fund group.

Trustee Budget Actual Compare Report (B230 and B240)

This report compares prior year and current year-to-date actual amounts with current and next year trustee budget amounts. The budget amounts are from the Trustee Budget that is submitted to the Board of Trustees for approval in May.

Final Budget Actual Compare Report (B250 and B260)

This report compares prior and current year-to-date actual amounts with current and next year final budget amounts. The budget amounts are from the Final Budget that is loaded in the general ledger at the end of the budget cycle.

Current Budget Actual Compare Report (B210 and B220)

This report compares prior and current year-to-date actual amounts with last and current fiscal year final budgeted amounts and current (as of the last extract from CPBS) budgeted

Budget Current Balance Report

There is one report in this document. You may run this report to check your budget account balance status. All budget accounts must balance to zero before submitting your Trustee Budget and Trustee Budget narrative to the University Budget Office. You may limit the report by organization, department, fund, function, and source.

Balances on Account Report (B110)

This report contains the current balance of the accounts you select. The account balances reflect the most current extract from CPBS.

Financial Planning Reports

This document contains four financial planning reports. You may limit the reports by organization, department, account, fund, function, and source.

Financial Account Inquiry by Dept Report (B310)

This report has budget planning amounts by account, object, project and DUO as well as workforce information including position number and last name of incumbent. You must select by a "timekey" - the date of extract from CPBS that you wish to see. Be careful to select only those accounts needed for a particular report because this report is very detailed. Selecting too many accounts may result in a long query time or an error message.

Financial Account Inquiry Summary Report (B330)

This report uses the same parameters from the Financial Account Inquiry by Dept Report and removes some of the account and workforce detail. The report is summarized by FRC (financial reporting codes) for budget from the annual budget planning assumptions book in the Trustee format.

Transfer Report (B340)

This report returns a list of all transactions that are designated as "transfer" by FRC Budget fund groups. The report may be used to verify inter-unit and university transfers. Only the following FRC for budget are included in the report:

  • 120 Inter-Unit Transfers In
  • 125 Inter-Unit Transfers Out
  • 150 Transfers in from Endowment
  • 160 Transfers in from Plant Funds
  • 300 Transfers out to Endowment
  • 310 Transfers out to Plant Fund

The Financial Account Inquiry Detail Report (B320)

This report has budget planning amounts on an account basis. Details include object, project and DUO as well as workforce information including position number and last name of incumbent. Notes and transfer information is also available. The report is generated from the same query as the Financial Account Inquiry by Dept Report; therefore, you must select by a "timekey" - the date of extract from CPBS that you wish to see. Pages will break by account.

Fiscal Year Budget Plan Reports

The Fiscal Year Budget Plan Reports provide authorized budget plans sorted and grouped by the Financial Reporting Codes (FRC) within specific operational fund groups. These reports replace the printed yellow reports distributed annually at the end of the Budget cycle by the University Budget Office. The Trustee or Final report by Organization/Department and Fund Group displays the budget reports as entered into the Cornell Planning and Budget System (CPBS). Standard reports can be run by choosing the Trustee Budget row or (T) and the Final Budget row or (F). Reports can be exported into Excel either from the budget report or Pivot Tables (P).

Trustee or Final by Organization / Fund Report (B810)

This report provides budget information summarized by organization within specific fund groups.

Trustee or Final by Department / Fund Report (B820)

This report provides budget information summarized by organization and department within specific fund groups.

Trustee or Final by Organization / Function Report (B830)

This report displays functional distribution of expenditures summarized by organization as budgeted for that fiscal year. This report displays functional expenditures.

Trustee or Final by Department / Function Report (B840)

This report displays functional distribution of expenditures summarized by department as budgeted for that fiscal year. This report only displays functional expenditures.

Budget Account Delete Report

There is only one standard report in this document. Run this report to identify your unit's accounts that will be deleted prior to or as of the upcoming budgeted fiscal year. Only those accounts with budgeted amounts will be listed.

Please move labor distributions on workforce records on these accounts to active accounts, and remove any financial worksheet items that may be on the account.

Deleted Accounts in CPBS Report (B010)

This report identifies all accounts with budgeted amounts that are flagged for deletion by the Accounting Office.

Financial Workforce Reports

These three financial reports return data on planned workforce distributions only. All three reports have budget planning amounts by workforce record broken out by account function, fund and source. You must select a "timekey" - the date of extract from CPBS that you wish to see. Optional limits include accounting organization, department, fund, function and source codes.

Workforce Account Inquiry by Function Report (B420)

This report lists budgeted workforce amounts by function group. If you select more than one department or a whole organization, the report will go to a new page with each department.

Workforce Account Inquiry by Fund Report (B410)

This report lists budgeted workforce amounts by fund group.

Workforce Account Inquiry by Source Report (B430)

This report lists budgeted workforce amounts by source group.

There are three pivot reports (Pivot Function, Pivot Fund and Pivot Source) that replicate the data in the reports - download these to your desktop if you would like to manipulate the data in Excel.
